Days 2-3: Beatboxing and Birthdays

It's hard to believe that the week is halfway done! How quickly the past two days have gone. Tuesday was a pretty normal day for me, I observed more in my classes and was able to jump in on a couple of lessons with my LA Co-Op. The students are great and I am learning more and more names so that hopefully, by the end of the week I will know them all. One of my favorite students (I know I'm not supposed to have favorties, but I do) is this little 6th grade boy. He's average height for a 6th grader, has a high little voice, and can beatbox and dance like some of the dancers on ABDC (America's Best Dance Crew). My first day at BLS, the other students in his class told me that he had to show me his skills and I was amazed. I told him how impressed I was (which earned me some cool points) and now everytime I see him in the hall he shows me a new dance move. I love it!

Today I actually taught my frist lesson in LA. The 7th graders are reading "Out of the Dust" and so we talked about the time period, what people must have been going through then, and compared ourselves to the main character of the book. It went very well and my Co-op gave me good feedback. I was much more comfortable in front of the classroom this time around and am excited to work with them for the rest of the time I am here. Today was also my host mom's birthday. Her son let it slip last night at dinner, and so Dee (the other student teacher I am living with) and I went to the store on our way out last night. We got her a cute beach bag to take to the beach this weekend and a hoops and yoyo card from the Hallmark store. We put it on her desk in the library this morning and she was really surprised.

I am really having a great time here in Baltimore and am looking forward to the weekend when the other student teachers and I get to explore!

I also had another interview this afternoon with a school in Kansas. It went very well and while I can't be sure, I sort of have a feeling that this might be the one. I know that God will use me wherever I go.

  1. Julia- thanks for the link! I am so excited to hear about your time in Baltimore (even though it makes me a little homesick:). I'm praying that you enjoy the experience. BLS is an okay school in my book! Love ya:)
