Student Teaching: Day 1

Day 1 of Student Teaching is done, and I am exhausted. I've done extensive teacher-aiding before so I thought I would be used to being in the classroom for long periods of time, but I soon found out that this is going to be so much more. Oh yeah, did I mention that I didn't even teach today? Today was a day of observation and being an extra set of eyes and hands for the teacher. I watched my Co-ops (Cooperating teachers) teach and just listened and learned what their classroom routines are and how they run their class during the day.

I have two Co-ops this quarter. The first 2 periods of the day I'm with Mrs. Nannen, the high school Spanish teacher. She is very passionate and energetic, which is how a Spanish teacher should be. I am going to learn a lot about her. For the rest of the day (6 class periods) I am with Mrs. Seibel. She is the 7th and 8th grade English and has been teaching for 4 years. I am her first student teacher and I know that I am going to learn a lot from her.

This week I will slowly be working my way up to teaching a full class period, so that by next Monday I will teach one class all by myself! This is an exciting and exhausting time and I can't wait to see what the rest of the week has in store.
